Telemedicine Is Healthcare's New Frontier

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has reached a sufficient degree of maturity that it is now possible to envisage setting up a virtual hospital in a patient’s home, obtaining real-time teleconsulting and diagnosis from a remote location and transmitting clinical data and multimedia medical content from one location to a large number of geographically dispersed locations.[link]

Physicists Hear High-Tech Whistle While They Work

"It all starts with one slippery liquid helium-4. Ultra-cold helium-4 becomes a superfluid, meaning it flows without friction. The scientists squashed it through an array of apertures 1,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair. The liquid whooshed faster and faster, until it reached a critical velocity. At that point, in a strange phenomenon, a microscopic quantum whirlpool dashed across each aperture, carrying away some of the helium-4's flow energy. This abruptly slowed the flow. The fluid repeatedly sped up and slowed down, creating vibrations that produced a whistling sound going from high to low.

A recording of the sound, called a quantum whistle, is available online at: http://www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/technologies/whistle.html."

Dj Tracer.com

As a follow up to an earlier post, Michael Sheinberg's website dj tracer.com is now up but still lacking anything in the form of content. I'm sure this is a direct result of his busy schedule and I'm wondering what direction he is wanting to go in. If the reality show, "Love is in the Heir" is scripted, is he pursuing more of an acting or music career? I'm curious to know if the designer behind this site is a mutual friend by the name of Todd. Time will tell. Dj Tracer[dot]com

B-15A Iceberg's Close Encounter Monitored By Envisat

An Adelie out on B15My step-sister is currently working at McMurdo Station and has provided me with photos of her experience. In her recent e-mails she points out the current issue with B-15A. However, she failed to point out the impact this is having on the wildlife there.

"Since then B-15A has found its way to McMurdo Sound, where its presence has blocked ocean currents and led to a build-up of sea ice. This has led to turn to resupply difficulties for the United States and New Zealand scientific stations in the vicinity and the starvation of numerous local penguins unable to forage the local sea."[link]

NASA: comparing the iceberg to Long Island

Iceberg/Long IslandNASA has an interesting animation comparing the iceberg to Long Island. If you watch the animation for several minutes, you will see the iceberg photos merge into an animation illustrating its movement from November until last week. I recommend you send this on to your staff as I'm sure they would be interested in viewing it. [link]
